I've been trying to figure out a solution to successfully pass through DTS-HD MA and DTS:X through eARC to my Q850A sound bar with no success. A little background on the devices that are relevant: I have the Sony X90J tv, Samsung Q850A sound bar, and PS5. I've connected my PS5 to the hdmi 4 port on the tv, and the sound bar to the hdmi 3 port on the tv which is the eARC port.

When I play Dolby content, it passes through fine: the ps5 displays that it’s sending Dolby TrueHD which is fine because it uses that as a container to Atmos, and the sound bar displays that it’s playing Atmos.

When playing DTS content, it doesn’t pass through properly: the ps5 displays that it’s sending plain old DTS, and nothing is displayed on the sound bar indicating DTS:X is being played.

When I connect my PS5 directly to the sound bar, both Dolby and DTS content play fine: the sound bar displays that it’s playing DTS:X or Atmos, and the PS5 says that it’s sending DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD respectively.

I've raised this issue at reputable TV and sound bar testers over at RTINGS (here's the link to the discussion: https://www.rtings.com/tv/discussions/Q_HrsEsnVk3I2GdF/how-did-you-get-dts-hd-ma-and-dts-x-passthrou...) and they concluded that this combination of TV and sound bar is the issue. The two devices don't seem to communicate with each other properly as there is no issue when pairing this tv with another brand sound bar. I suspect a firmware update is needed either by Sony or Samsung to fix this issue.

Update: As you can see, other users are reporting the same issue when pairing a Sony tv with a Samsung sound bar, and this issue only happens when pairing the two. DTS-HD MA and DTS:X pass through just fine when pairing a Sony tv with any other brand sound bar.

As someone else already stated. I have a Samsung HW-Q60C and a Samsung TV and I have this exact same problem.

However, I plug my source into the sound bar and then the sound bar into the TV DTS works. But HDMI CEC and Arc become extremely unreliable in that configuration. Once the TV is in standby for awhile all of a sudden it takes 40 secs for the TV to turn on the soundbar and then it never remembers I’m using a soundbar for audio vs TV speakers. Only way to fix, temporarily, is to cut power at the wall to the whole setup for 30 secs and then plug it back in. This is super ridiculous.

Having a similar issue with my Bravia X80l and Samsung Q800C connected to the eARC port directly. Dolby Atmos works fine but when I play DTS content it just displays stereo PCM and the audio can barely be heard. Hope Samsung releases a firmware update soon. It's really frustrating.

Having the same issue as others but with my Sony X90k TV and Samsung HW-q750c soundbar on firmware 1004.034. Primarily happens when watching Blu-ray movies on the PS5 that use DTS-HD MA 2.0.

Waiting for Samsung to update the firmware to make it work.

Not sure if these problems have been resolved yet.

I have a Samsung TV S90C, Samsung soundbar Q930C, and PS5 for movies. The soundbar sounds great on any film with any audio source. I only changed the PS5 audio settings when watching movies to Bitstream.

Hope this helps

I stumbled upon this thread after having similar issues.

I can get DTS to play on my Q850A soundbar connected via eARC to Sony. I'm mostly interested in my DTS music collection because when I tested a movie on plex with DTS-HD it played no problem. For audio I have the issue that the sampling rate needs to be 48kHz instead of 44.1 kHz and then it works in Kodi. Sometimes it only plays chopped up bits of a song but that can be mitigated by going to audio options of Kodi and changing resampling to low, middle or high... whatever is not selected. I really wish this would work better but once it's working it does sound pretty awesome. I've had no success with flac files so far, only .dts in passthrough mode get decoded correctly
