I was literally about to post this, yeah I don't like this because for a year and a half if you include the beta time I've been using the *swipe to go back feature* since and now they changed it and it's very frustrating honestly
You can always change it back to how it was before. Go to Settings->Display->Navigation Bar->More Settings. Make sure your settings look like mine, or inverted, depending on which side you want your back and recents on.
This is expected functionality for gestures if you are using :"swipe from sides and bottom". If you are looking for same gestures as Pie please use "swipe from bottom" in Settings -> display -> navigation bar-> more options
