I understand that the Galaxy S24 series will receive software support for up to 7 years, meaning it will receive updates until 2031. The question is, by that time, will the Galaxy S24 series be considered outdated in terms of design and performance?

By 2031, the Galaxy S24 will likely be outdated compared to newer flagship models. Smartphone technology advances rapidly, with improvements in processing power, AI capabilities, battery efficiency, and design innovations. While the software support ensures security and usability, hardware limitations—such as processor speed, camera advancements, and display technology—may make it feel outdated.

That said, if Samsung optimizes updates well, the device could still be functional for basic tasks, but it may struggle with demanding apps and newer features introduced in future models.

When i bought s22 Ultra, samsung also said the software support up to 7 years but after 2 years green line appear on my screen. Its useless to have 7 years software support when their hardware is so lousy. Mind you, the tech check my phone and there is no drop or any faulty with the phone. The green line appear right after i updated the UI 6.1.

S22 - S23 - S24 - S25 all have same camera aspect, the main difference only its Ultra variant: S22U has 108MP, S23U / S24U / S25U all have 200 MP plus S25U has 50MP ultrawide, i know MP isn't everything but seeing this trend i don't think S24U will have many differences than an S31U

well the main difference is SOC, but Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is very capable for daily life, the only you must care is battery, definitely you must change your S24U battery in 2029, btw Li-ion 5000 mAh battery can last easily for a day, with 45W charging you can charge your phone fast enough like if you only have 15 min spare S24U can charge from 1% - 50%+ until you have another 15 mins spare or during you sleep time, S24U already a good device and S23U too!

In my opinion, smartphone users can be divided into 3 main categories. They are :

1. Those who like to flex/flaunt to earn bragging rights like one of those show offs or some influencers. You can also call them the FOMO (fear of missing out) types. Owning the latest flagship phone with the latest tech will always be their top priority.

2. Those who are heavy users such as gamers, photographers or phone video editors. I call them tech geeks or nerds. They crave for the latest cutting edge tech, specs and features. Most of the time, they will push the phone to its limit. If the phone can't handle it anymore, they'll move on to the next latest phone.

3. Those who are casual. They'll opt for phone longevity. They'll go for any reputable and reliable nice looking phones. Nothing fancy but just enough to perform basic stuff. Even with the latest cutting edge hardware specs and features, they know they will rarely use it.

So, to sum it up, that 7 years of software updates and security patches offered by Samsung should not be a concern. Call it a bonus if you will. It's nice to have but not a concern if you fall into Category 1 or 2 because Samsung knows you'll always end up buying the latest new phone in no time. If you are a Category 3 user, you will definitely be happy with it. Why not? You get your moneys' worth and peace of mind for the next 7 years with light usage. Cheers.
