Experienced the same thing, I peeled it off after hearing crunch noises and I was anxious of it damaging the actual screen. So far no problems. But Id recommend you get it replaced in you nearest samsung service center.

I did not, my mom is using it without the screen protector. Still works like it was a year ago.

No problem, but Id still recommend you bring yours to a nearby service center. If your phone still has warranty they'll replace the old protector with a new one for free.
