I’ve seen a few complaints online about One UI 8 on the Tab S9. How bad is it? Is it possible to stop the device from updating automatically until the issues are fixed?

Hi MaryamsPages,

You're right to be cautious.

While Samsung doesn’t offer a direct toggle to completely disable updates, you can delay them using these steps:

  1. Disable Auto-Download Over Wi-Fi

    • Go to Settings > Software Update > Auto Download Over Wi-Fi.

    • Toggle this off to prevent automatic downloads.

  2. Avoid Manual Update Prompts

    • When prompted to update, choose “Later” or dismiss the notification.

    • Avoid checking for updates manually until you're ready.

Note: These steps delay updates but don’t block them permanently. Samsung may still push critical security patches.

If you're experiencing issues or want to wait for a more stable release, these steps can help you maintain control.

We would like to inform you that the device may require some time to fully adapt to the new update. During this adjustment period, you may experience temporary issues. However, these can often be resolved by following the recommended troubleshooting steps. We appreciate your patience and understanding as the system stabilizes.

Thanks for the detailed response. I’ve already disabled auto-download, and I’ll follow the rest of the steps you mentioned to hold off the update for now. I understand it’s only a delay and not a full block, but I’d rather wait for a more stable release. I appreciate the clarification and your help.

Enable Developer Options if you haven't already & Toggle Off Auto Update System.

To Enable Developer Options, go to Settings > About Phone > Software Information & Tap on Build Number 7 times.

Go back one screen and you'll see Developer Options > Click on it and Search for System.

Personally I don't recommend doing this.

More often than not, people who complain about updates, just don't understand the changes.

Thanks for the suggestion and the explanation. I get what you mean. Sometimes, people react to updates just because things look or work differently at first. I still prefer to hold off for now, though, at least until the update feels a bit more refined. But I appreciate you taking the time to explain it.

I have a Tab S9 Ultra updated to One UI 8 and have seen "0" problems with the update as there are  hardly any differences

There are always people complaining about updates but that doesn't mean there are actual problems with the update🤣

That’s reassuring. I guess experiences vary. Thanks for the input.
