After many users reported faster battery drain following the One UI 7 update, I have created this post to explain why itโ€™s not some Samsung conspiracy, but instead a technically complex shift in systems behaviour whenever new instructions are loaded

โš™๏ธ So what causes it?

1. System relearning & indexing
Post-update, your phone reindexes files and relearns your app habits. This keeps background services running constantly for several days

2. New power and temperature controls
One UI 7 changed how the phone manages power and heat. Right now, itโ€™s a bit too generous by keeping some processes running longer than before, which uses more battery until it learns what to slow down

3. Developers need to update their apps
Most apps built for Android 14 arenโ€™t fully compatible with Android 15. They may trigger background wakeups or ignore new sleep policies because they simply aren't harnessing the newer parameters available on Android 15

๐Ÿ“Œ Fun fact

After iOS 17 launched, users reported 2โ€“3 days of battery drain caused by photo analysis, Spotlight indexing, and Siri retraining. Pixel 6 and 7 owners also experienced up to a week of higher drain after updating to Android 14

๐Ÿ”š Bottom line

One UI 7 isnโ€™t broken - itโ€™s adjusting. Background services, thermal tuning, and app compatibility all need time to settle. Samsung is rolling out patches monthly, so a bit of patience goes a long way

I wrote something similar about new phones a while back:

It's a great reminder to let the phone settle! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I've explained exactly the same but less technically, more concise and in basic language to try explain things to the less technically minded.

So how long will this keep happening? It will be a month on 7/7/25 since I did the update. After 3 hours of on-and-off usage this morning, my phone is at 60% battery life. (Was fully charged when I got up.)

that sounds out of the ordinary - have you engaged Samsung Support yet? If so, what was their response?
