The frame artwork so dull during the day

Hoping for some tips to our problem....

We have just purchased a 65" the frame tv and everything is working great excluding the artwork...

Our living area has a lot of windows and is extremely bright during the day.

The intelligent mode adaptive picture works great for tv mode.. with the bright daylight in the room you can see the tv go into overdrive and get super bright looking great.

The art mode however seems to do the opposite.. at night time it looks fine. During daylight it's insanely dull... It almost looks like the screen has been covered with the darkest car window tint available.

I have adjusted the brightness to full within the art mode settings and it's marginally better but still looks like we've tinted our tv.

Anything silly I'm missing to resolve this?

Thanks

This has taken me hours but I was finally able to get it because of one user's suggestion. With my tv "off" (aka, in art mode where it's supposed to show a depiction of a painting), I simply pressed the down arrow on my remote which given how dark the picture was, was difficult to see at first. If you press down again, and then to the right (so down, down, right, and click the center circle on the remote), that will bring up a brightness adjuster where you can then manually adjust the brightness by moving the selector to the right to make the screen brighter. I did a brightness reset which is an option as well, and that solved the problem for me going forward (so far). I hope this is helpful to others and will save a lot of wasted time/effort.

Hi @GregST, that's odd. Does the screen still appear like this when intelligent mode is off?

To turn it off, follow the steps below:

Hi Laura,

Thanks for your reply.

I have played with the adaptive picture setting. It works perfectly for the unit when I'm tv mode. The tv is near a big bright window. When in tv mode the adaptive picture mode gives it an extra boost of brightness and makes the picture look great.

It seems to have no effect on the art mode though... It's almost the opposite in art mode. As soon as the ambient light in the room gets bright the artwork goes from looking amazing to being so dull to the point it looks tinted. The white picture surround frame we selected looks a dark grey.

It reminds me of those reading glasses that are clear inside but when the wearer goes outside they automatically tint to be sunglasses.

Thanks for letting me know @GregST.

Have you tried using the SmartThings app to set your TV's brightness and sensitivity?

1. SmartThings app > The Frame > Settings

If this does not work, please send through an email with the following details so that I may follow up with our team.

I have the same TV and same problem and discovered the problem. My TV is wall mounted and I had a house plant 30cm away. It wasn't blocking the sensor but was affecting how the sensor works. Try ensuring there's a clear space under and around the sensor that's on the bottom right of the TV.

I’m so glad you posted this tip! I had tried all the things with no luck, and it was totally my houseplant: Thank you!

I have the exact same problem reported by GregST.  We also have mounted our 2022 50" FrameTV in a bright room. . .there are multiple windows and our tv is right next to a sliding door. . .so plenty of ambient light during the daytime.  Like Greg, the ambient light adjustment feature of our tv works fine when in TV mode.  However, when in ArtMode, the automatic ambient light detection feature doesn't work properly - the art display automatically decreases the brightness of the art image such that it gets dimmed so dark that the image isn't properly visible. . .it's hard to view, the colors are dim. . .simply put the image quality is very poor.

The only option that address this is for me to go into the SmartThings app where I can manually increase the brightness of the ArtMode image - the image brightness is increased so that it is visible and looks good during bright daytime hours.  Unfortunately, the brightness level is far too bright for nighttime. . .at night the picture is too bright, the image has a "glow" to it because it is so bright relative to the relative dark surroundings of night, and it does not look right, doesn't look like art at all.  The solution?  To go back into the SmartThings app and, again, and manually adjust the brightness, this time, decreasing the brightness of the art image.

I have seen numerous threads of Samsung Frame TV owners reporting this issue so it sounds like an issue that is relatively common.

It would be tedious and is not reasonable to manually adjust the brightness of the ArtMode images based on whether it is day vs night time.   The ambient light adjustment feature makes perfect sense. . .but it isn't working properly in ArtMode.  The ability to have the tv display art while not watching TV was the whole point in purchasing the Frame TV. . .surprised and disappointed to learn that the ambient light settings in ArtMode don't work properly.  Really hoping that Samsung will respond to this issue and offer a fix.

Thanks, Mike

I’m having the exact same issue. Art mode is incredibly dim and the settings haven’t been changed. Art is set to 15 minutes if no movement but it turns off within a minute.

Hi all, my wife and I just got a 43" Frame 2022. I have the exact same problem mentioned here. Everything about this TV is amazing, except the fact that art mode is ultra dark during the daytime. There is nothing blocking the sensor on the bottom (fully clear below and on the sides of the TV).

Art mode looks great if I manually adjust the brightness to full during a bright day, but as others have mentioned, this is tedious to do. It should just automatically adapt to how bright the room is - (i.e., work as advertised). I hope this is just a software issue that will be fixed soon...

Exact same issue here. 2022 50" frame tv.

I have to adjust manually at least twice a day. My cellphone does a better job of this than a product that markets itself to do so. Every time there is a bloody cloud in the sky I'm fiddling with the brightness level. Please fix this.
