It has been just six months since Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Watch 3, but we are already hearing rumors regarding its successor. It was revealed last month that the next-generation Galaxy Watch models could bring support for blood glucose level reading. Now, more details regarding Samsung’s upcoming smartwatches have been leaked.

According to reliable leakster IceUniverse (@UniverseIce), Samsung will release two Galaxy Watch 4 series smartwatches: Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch Active 4. The South Korean firm appears to be skipping the Galaxy Watch Active 3 model name this year to bring the Galaxy Watch Active series’ numbering in line with the Galaxy Watch series. Both smartwatches could be released sometime in Q2 of 2021. That’s earlier than Samsung’s usual Q3 release time frame for its smartwatches.

The next-generation Galaxy Watches are expected to be released in two sizes (with model numbers SM-R86x and SM-R87x) and in Bluetooth and LTE variants. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 brought support for ECG and Fall Detection, and the Galaxy Watch 3 introduced SpO2 reading. The next-generation Galaxy Watches are rumored to bring non-intrusive blood glucose level reading, which means there is no need for pricking a user’s fingertip. The only feature that appears to be missing is skin temperature monitoring.

It is also being rumored that at least one of Samsung’s upcoming smartwatches would switch from Tizen to Google’s Wear OS platform. It is still not clear if Samsung has decided to completely ditch its own Tizen platform in favor of Google’s wearable platform or if it is just testing waters right now. However, that would still give Wear OS a much-needed boost in terms of both sales and popularity.
