One UI Home issues

Ever since an update at the beginning of September, my S20+ has often been getting these half second flash that disrupt anything I'm doing.  It won't close or exit the apps I'm using, but it is clearly trying to do something

  • Any apps in full screen such as YouTube will exit the full screen and the video will play in the normal half screen viewers
  • Typing in any text box such as this or text messages will have the keyboard minimized
  • Netflix will try and switch orientation and pause the video

It almost seems like it's trying to popup with some sort of permission as there was a Google popup around the same time this started happening, but never stays on screen to stay.

I've narrowed it down that it is some how related to One UI home because when it happens I'll go into settings and it is the last app used.

So far I have cleared the cache and data for it and allowed all permissions.  I've also reset app preferences in the general app settings.  I kept my S9+ and that phone has not had the same issue.  I've been trying to go through everything to mirror the settings on my old phone in hopes it would fix the problem, but no luck.  I also have Norton antivirus on my phones and have done malware scans.

Has anyone else had this happen or have any advice?

Regards

Thank you very much RedDogRabbit and Valeria,

Changing the Appear on Top setting to off in messages fixed the issue of exiting out of full screen for apps like Netflix and YouTube.

I'm still noticing in messages/texting that it will still flash and minimize the keyboard, so I'm reading up and working to test the safe mode option to see if it's Samsung messages or a 3rd party app - I will let you know what comes of it.  If it persists I may switch to the Google messaging as I want to do everything possible to avoid having to do a restore.

Thanks!

If the issue is from Samsung Messages (sounds like it), Safe Mode won't likely tell you anything, because Samsung Messages is a System App & won't get disabled in Safe Mode.

If I was experiencing this, I'd just download & install Google Messages, make sure that you make Google Messages the Default Messaging app, & theoretically, you should no longer have any weird behaviour.

Let me know if this fixes the issue.
