Android auto car play

Can anyone advise how to connect the phone to car player. My Toyota car player not detecting my phone via cable and only able charge. 

I'm having difficulty to use waze and Spotify. My previous iPhone had no issue with my car player.

Any specific cable I should use? Please advise

Swipe down on your notification shade, tap on "USB for file transfer" or whatever notification that mentions USB, and then toggle on the "Android Auto" option. See if that works for you. Do note that the "USB controlled by" section is dependant on the connection to your car, toggle between "connected device" or "this device" to see what works for you
