Galaxy NoteActually, what you guys said here is correct.
To enable 5G you need to have a 5G phone, 5G sim card and of course an area with 5G connectivity.
Before I continue, please don’t feel offence and I am not pointing on any company or anyone. Chill ya.
FYI, not every Telco in Malaysia got a high priority to deal with mobile manufacturer such as Samsung, Epal, etc. Maxis, DiGi, Celcom (if I am not mistaken UMobile too) are the main Telco which can get an early access to mostly everything but not to YES. So, this is why some of the phones are still not yet open to 5G. This is a deal between the Telco and phone manufacturer (like Samsung).
Political issue? Yes. I don’t want to mention more about it and I guess you should know why. FYI, Malaysia 5G announcement is actually quite fast which came in 2-3 years ago. Due to some reason (you can google it) the delay started. There is a reason why it come to us (the user) so late? You should know the news about DNB and Telco (try google it). As of today, I heard all Telco is willing to sign with DNB (but no prove that Maxis and UMobile will be signing yet). FYI, some Telco actually is forced to sign the deal due to merger issue (you get what I mean). Anyways, I am out for political thingy. Feel free to dig out the pros and cons about DNB. Lol.
If you curious why 5G is available from your friends Note 20 and not yours, this is because of the deal between the phone manufacturer with telco and government. As you know the 5G feature is already there in Note 20, what make you think Samsung is delaying it? Or you think there is a switch there where Samsung can turn in ON and OFF? It is an agreement between them which is not finalised yet. Like I said above, if it is the big Telco, yes you can get it very fast but what you are using is YES (this is why you can see some of the Samsung phone is available to 5G but some still no at the moment), so might need to wait a while. The deal from those big Telco with phone manufacturer long time is there so this is not a new issue to them. FYI, YES don’t have the priority with Epal either.
If you refer to YES website (link below), you don’t see Note 20 in their 5G list yet. Maybe you can direct the question to them as well.

** Different region mobile devices are totally different compared to Malaysia. Example S10E in Malaysia is using Exynos while USA is using Snapdragon. Beside that, you can’t claim warranty from other countries in Malaysia (vice-versa). That’s why your friend Note 20 (HK version) can use the 5G here in Malaysia.
