It also shows in the "Alway ON" screen. It looks like a timer. The number goes down very slowly. It started at 50. I took a screen shot and wish I could show it here.

Do you mean the top left? Top right is the battery indicator. If it's the top left, it could be your timer running in the Now Bar.
