Samsung Music is the best music player I know. That being said, it is also the worst.
It's aesthetically very clean and cool, by far my favorite, but it's missing like 5 essential functionalities that everyone else has, it has some mayor flaws:
• The queue doesn't work at all, you chose a song to play next and if you have it in shuffle it'll straight up ignore whatever song you chose and play something else.
• You can't look for a specific song because it won't play any other than the ones from the browse results, and the "alternative" for that in the settings is that every song you play will be counted as part of the all songs playlist, so any playlist that you made will stop working, you just can't use them and that's it, whatever song you play it will then play any other song you have even if it's not in the playlist you chose.
• THE FREAKING WHATSAPP AUDIOS! The most annoying thing ever, just block them please it's not that hard.
• The album covers, second most annoying thing. The problem is that if two songs are in the same album they automatically get the same cover, wich is horrible because what if I want different covers for songs from the same album? Also if a song has a cover but in it's data it has no album, it'll go blank, it won't show it's cover, it'll just add it to the "no album" album, "<unknown>".
• The skip silence between songs does nothing.
• About the smart volume I really don't notice any change but ok let's say it works.
• You need to differenciate between deleting a song and removing it from a playlist and give both options, right now if I go into a playlist and want to Delete a couple songs I have there, I can't, I can only Remove them from the playlist, to Delete them I'd have to go to the main list, find them one by one and delete them.
• And last but not least, everything in general is kinda messy, the buttons are all over the place, when you press and hold a song there's a button that says play, that is useless, and on the other side if you want to add something to the "queue" you have to press and hold, then press add and then you get the full playlist list just to get to the queue. You should change that "play" button for and add to queue or play next button.
Also for many things there are like 2 or even 3 ways to do them, for example if you want to add a song to a playlist or anything you can press and hold and then press add, you can open the three button menu of the song and hit add, or you can go into the song that is currently playing and then press add, same thing to delete or share a song. Btw in the three button menu, the artist and album options don't need to be there, i'd just add them to the more info screen of the song, like make it so when you're there you can click the album and it takes you there.
The volume button in the playing song screen is also useless, the physical buttons of the phone are closer. And I'm sure you can find a better place for the options from the three button menu and just get rid of it, it takes a lot of space in the screen.
In the favorite playlists list, that "playlist" word is useless, and having the name in the middle of the cover is very annoying. You should also let us choose the grid style for that list and for the songs and everything in general.
▪︎This is an extra, those were the things you should already have and must include, but then you could add some more stuff to stand out from the rest, for example stats, add a setting that let's you change the mini player bar to a simplyfied version with just the play/pause button, a better alphabetic order searcher, like you press a letter, then hold for a sec and it let's you choose the second letter, this would be very helpful given that the browser doesn't work🙂.
In conclusion, Samsung Music is in desperate need of a practical update, the interface is already crazy good looking, that's cool, but now need to address the important stuff, when these things get fixed I'll be the happiest person alive and Samsung Music will be the absolute best music app.
Guess what... It's 2024, and it's still not fixed. If it doesn't generate revenue, best believe Samsung is never going to fix it. They move onto new projects at an insane rate leaving old projects broken. Quite infuriating. Samsung, please. Poach some apple devs, they clearly know what they are doing. Maybe they can fix your apps for you.
Preach brother. Fire whichever intern u hired to develop Samsung music. It looks good. That's it, it's functionality is usable at best. The most infuriating thing in the world is the add to queue option. WHY EVEN HAVE IT IF IT WONT EVEN PLAY NEXT. Like I understand the option to queue it at the top, bottom, or next. But even with the next option checked, I'd you're playing in the middle of a playlist or queue, it will add it at the top of the list (which unless you restart your entire playlist, you won't see) Cover art is a pain in the ***, why why why, do you just take a random photo from another song, and make it the default cover art for all songs that have no cover art??? Why do u automatically detect and add WhatsApp audio and other misc audio to the music app. God even Apple music doesn't have this issue. Who are u paying to run this app, if its this buggy don't even bother bundling it with phones. It's god afwul. The worst music app I've ever used
