I've been using it and noticed that if you hold the gesture for a second, it works better. it's attempting to verify you do, in fact, want to go back. also, stay below the midway point of the phone as this is where it works best. let me know if this helps!
ok, follow up. I figured out how I am making the open app page show up while trying too go back. Starting at the bottom corner and going diagonal will cause this to happen. I have been able to replicate it multiple times.
