But everytime I close my phone since the update it will close any app I have open, is this something that can be fixed in the settings?

try this,
settings / device care / Battery/ App power management and see if put unused apps to sleep is checked.

and if you've messed with Developer Options, maybe you toggled Dont Keep Activities

since I updated to the beta of android 10 the direct calls from the edge screen don't work, does anyone know how to fix it?
