Status bar text unreadable

The text on the status bar while on the homepage is always black regardless of the wallpaper. It doesn't have the background band to make it legiable like before. Anyone else?

I hate the status bar and have always had it off. now there is no way for me to turn it off

Please try clearing the system cache and rebooting your device.
