They were actually playful, the new ones in beta 3 feels like it hits a wall when you swipe up to close. No one had complaints from beta 2 animations it was perfect only needed bug fixing.
I like the new animations better. When I press home or back its so much faster and zippier. It seemed slow as hell on beta 2, I even had to recheck my developer options and make sure my animations were all still turned down to .5×
