SupportActually, no harm to voice out any thought. Whether it is positive or negative because we are the user and is our rights.
FYI, Android update (or you called it Samsung update) release by region/ country basis. This is because Android isn't distributed by Google as a ready-made product. It needs to be built from the source code and the company that made your phone, and possibly the carrier you bought it from, have a hand in the entire update process. It might take a while before you ever see it. This is why some countries can get it first and some might be a little bit late. But end of the day, you will still get it. Just about time only.
Google doesn't distribute Android as a piece of software that's ready for use. Companies that make devices that use it, including Google Pixel itself have to set up a proper build environment and download the source code so they can build the software themselves.
We cannot change this because this is Android and it fixed. Devices which are in the same family, like the S series (S22+ and S22 Ultra), use a different version of the software because the hardware is different. The way Google licenses the Android branding ensures that all of them can run every application you find in the Google Play Store.
Remember one thing, this is not Epal where they own everything.
To make it short, the process can be look like this (process can read as easy but in real work don’t assume it is an easy job):
- Google release new version of Android
- Phone manufacturer evaluate it and decide which devices will be update
- The software is built for the specific device
- The software then customized with additional features which not provided by Google
- If the software is stable enough, release the beta test
- Send software to carriers for further testing and (possibly) more customization
- Release a wider testing version to consumers who wish to be part of the process
- Last, release the software to the general public
Please note that carriers (Telco) also play a part in the update process because they need to evaluate any effect features and changes which will have on their networks. If you bought your phone from a carrier store, it can slow things down even further. FYI, if you get a free phone from a carrier company you always see a notice saying that the phone is belongs to their company name which you cannot disable it (maybe you can but I don’t know how because I am not a professional). The reason is because the phone give to you maybe is because of gift or anything and to make sure you cannot earn from selling it.
For Beta testing, is really depend on the manufacturer itself. There’s always a reason why Malaysia is not part of it. To us as a user, we might feel happy and eager to test it but who knows what is in the middle of it as in why Malaysia is not in the list. Malaysia version of Samsung is actually almost same as UK and other countries. That’s why Samsung is open up the testing to them instead of Malaysia. Maybe they got more population, etc. No one know. Or maybe got more reason. But isn’t it good? Because we can use the newly release update without/ less bug on it. Further more we don’t even need to test it and get the original release, isn’t it good? There’s always yes and no for it. So don’t feel sad if we are not part of the beta testing. No point to argue to something which is happened and cannot be fix.
Again, no harm to get angry on anything. Just chill. Most important is we as a Malaysian, as long we can stay happy and healthy is more than enough already. I think those are the most valuable thing.
** No offence. Please don’t get angry with my comment.
