Probably a "duh" for most people but I myself forgot to do it. A lot of the issues i was facing like missing music and ringtones, lockscreen clock color not changing, etc. were fixed after a reboot.

More important than that is to clear the system cache from the boot menu.

I needed a factory reset. Now everything is pretty smooth. haven't noticed any real huge bugs yet and have all my old apps reinstalled in under 10 mins.
