I've recently bought a Galaxy A17 5G. My old 3G phone was perfectly adequate for purpose, but the network is/was about to close down.

Not being one of those who live on the phone, and using it only for texting, making a few calls , and taking the odd photo, I'd found a pre-pay account suited me best, with a $20 top-up every 2-3 months enough to meet my needs. (I do websurfing and suchlike data-heavy activity on my PC at home. And I'm not one of those who have to film everything.)

Now I find my new phone gobbles up an entire $20 top-up in less than two days. The cause appears to be unwanted data downloads, operating in the background, from a dozen or so of the pre-loaded apps, many of them from Google. For the time being I've disabled the worst offenders and blocked notifications, but have yet to check if this helps. The situation can't continue long-term; Google Play Services keeps nagging at me to enable it again.

I'd welcome suggestions from others who've had to deal with this trouble.

I bought expensive one for 3 time to get data rollover then. Allowed the third one to stay on, the last 2 day before due cancelled then but cheaper one. From there if you keep playing $15 per month you have plenty of data and text to use. Like mine I have 120G. Hence, witch off data when you don't used. Turn it back when you need. Never go on YouTube as your data will empty in secund. Hope it help

Yes, just switch off your mobile data in settings and restart it only when you need it whilst out and about.
Browsing at home you can use your wifi network if you have one which helps too.

Its actually not the phone its the network company as well because they want us to subscribe to higher plan. So just turn on your data when you need it.
