How to fix a Samsung Galaxy A70 that keeps lagging and freezing

When a smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy A70 starts to keep lagging and freezing, the problem can only be with the firmware. That’s often the case when it comes to performance issues. It means that the problem isn’t really a serious problem but something you can fix immediately after doing one or a couple of procedures.

In this post, I will walk you through in troubleshooting your Galaxy A70 that started to keep lagging and freezing for some reason. I will also share with you the procedures that we’ve been using to fix this issue. So if you’re one of the owners of this device and are currently having the same issue, continue reading this article as we may be able to help you.

Troubleshooting a Galaxy A70 that keeps lagging and freezing

In this troubleshooting guide, we will look into all possibilities and rule them out one after another until we can figure out what the problem really is and hopefully be able to fix it. With that being said, here’s what I suggest you do about this issue…

Perform the Forced Restart first

Before doing any troubleshooting procedures, make sure to refresh your phone’s memory by doing the forced restart. It’s a simulated battery removal that will reload all apps and services on your device. It is important to do this procedure because the lagging and freezing might be due to a minor firmware issue which can be fixed by this procedure. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Press and hold the Volume Down button and don’t release it yet.
  2. While holding down the volume button, press and hold the Power key as well.
  3. Keep both keys held down together for 15 seconds or until the Galaxy A70 logo shows on the screen.

Wait until your device has finished rebooting. Once the restart is finished, try to see if the lagging and freezing still occur.

Observe your phone in Safe mode

The purpose of this procedure is to rule out the possibility that the lags and freezes are caused by some third party apps. It is important that you know if that’s the case or not because if it is, then you should be able to fix it easily. That said, here’s how you restart your device in safe mode:

  1. Press and hold the Power key until options show.
  2. Tap and hold the Power off option until it changes into Safe Mode.
  3. Tap the Safe mode icon to restart your device.
  4. Once the reboot is successful, you should see ‘Safe mode’ at the lower-left corner of the screen.

Once you’ve successfully restarted your phone in safe mode, try to see if it still keeps lagging and freezing. If the phone actually works fine while in safe mode, then here’s what you need to do next:

  1. Restart your phone normal to boot into standard mode.
  2. Remember the apps you installed about the time when the phone starts to lag and freeze.
  3. Once you already have an app in mind, swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  4. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  5. Scroll to and then tap Apps.
  6. Find and tap suspected app.
  7. Tap Storage.
  8. Touch Clear data and tap OK to confirm.
  9. Tap the back key once and then touch Uninstall.
  10. Confirm that you want to remove the app from your phone.

However, if your device does not show the same symptoms, then move on to the next solution.

Reset all the settings on your device

It is possible that this problem is caused by some incorrect settings on your phone. There are settings that, if enabled, can cause the phone to act weird. It’s important to rule out this possibility and so you need to reset all settings by following these steps:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to pull the notification panel down.
  2. Tap the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll to and tap General management.
  4. Touch Reset.
  5. Tap Reset settings.
  6. Tap the Reset settings button.
  7. If prompted, enter your PIN, Password or Pattern.
  8. Finally, tap Reset.

Once the reset is finished, try to see if your phone is still lagging and freezing. If it still does, then it’s time to look into the firmware.

Wipe the cache partition

Wiping the cache partition of your phone can also help in fixing this problem. It’s because corrupt cache files can cause performance issues to your device. At this point, it’s imperative to do this procedure as it’s actually really effective in fixing any firmware-related issues. Here’s how you do it:

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power keys.
  3. When the Galaxy A70 logo shows, release the keys.
  4. Your Galaxy A70 will continue to boot up into the Recovery Mode. Once you see a black screen with blue and yellow texts, proceed to the next step.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

After the reboot, try to see if your phone still keeps lagging and freezing.

Perform the Master Reset

A master reset can fix any performance issues and this might be the only thing you need right now. But the reason why we always reserve this procedure at the last part is because you might end up losing some of your important files and data. While it will be such a hassle to create a backup of your files on a phone that keeps lagging and freezing, at least, backup the ones that you really can’t afford to lose. After the backup, remove your Google account from your device so that you won’t be locked out. When ready, follow these steps to reset your phone:

  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight ‘wipe data / factory reset’.
  6. Press Power button to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key until ‘Yes’ is highlighted.
  8. Press Power button to select and start the master reset.
  9. When the master reset is complete, ‘Reboot system now’ is highlighted.
  10. Press the Power key to restart the device.

I hope that we’ve been able to help you fix your Galaxy A70 that keeps lagging and freezing.
