I'm a Note 20 Ultra user for 2 years. I'm now having impulsive thoughts about buying the S23 Ultra since their having the mid year sale. However, upon checking their specs and comparing the two, the only upgrade that is significant to me with S23U is the 200mp main camera with 100x zoom. Even the display is bigger in the N20U. I still think that the N20U is a more competitive model than the S23U.

What do you guys think? Is it worth it to switch to S23U or is it better that I just wait the following years for newer models to come?

Share your opinions. And thank you in advance. 😊

S23U's up to 100x zoom is just Digital zoom. What more significant is its 10x OPTICAL zoom.
Nevertheless, Note20U's camera sensors and 5x OPTICAL zoom are still pretty decent this 2023.

What's the difference between the digital and optical zoom? Thanks!

Optical zoom involves a physical camera lens movement, which changes the apparent closeness of the image subject by increasing the focal length. To zoom in, the lens moves away from the image sensor, and the scene is magnified. It is useful to think of digital zoom as photo-processing software built into your camera. By enlarging pixels in the center of the photo and cropping out the rest, digital zoom gives the appearance of magnifying the subject, while also lessening resolution and image quality.

In short, optical zoom allows to you bring the object close before you capture it. With digital zoom, your camera uses a part of the image and sizes it later. That's why the risk of losing image quality is greater with digital zoom. You can compare it to seeing pixels when you magnify a small image.

Oh ok I get it. Optical zoom is better than digital zoom. A big thanks for the detailed explanation. 😊
