Anyone or samsung have a solution or update to resolve the above problem? There's always an error message " Couldn't Restore Messages check your phone's internet connection and tap retry to restore. " when it starts to restore the google drive backup which the backup was for 9th Dec 2021. My internet connection has no issue and even when I switch to wifi still the same error message. By the way I do not have a local backup as I forgot to do it and I thought google drive will be more than enough. Who knows....

All the account info use to backup previously is correct and also I've google play services installed and mobile number used for restoration is the same that I used all these while.

Anyone have a better solution?

Samsung please look into this problem and release an update fast.

@DanielBlatt I have not tried as because of this I've been uninstalling my whatsapp and trying to restore till I've to wait quite a substantial amt of time like 22hrs for my whatsapp to be verified and restore. So I won't be trying for the time being as too risky. Maybe u can try it out instead and see if it works but remember to copy out the local whatsapp backup database folder and keep it aside. When u install whatsapp again go to whatspp folder and paste the whatsapp database folder with the local backup in it to the whatsapp folder as if google drive dosen't work then you can skip the process and directly install back whatsapp and it'll automatically pull your local backup file from the database folder and restore by right that's what I've experience.

I don't know if this is a Samsung Issue or a WhatsApp issue but it is frustrating.  Feel like I would get rid of my brand new Samsung S21 plus. I backed up my WhatsApp to Google drive and locally yet on my new phone it is not restoring either of these and I do not have access to critical information and nobody seems to be helping. I have installed a d ubinstallednso much I now have to wait 24 hours to get my next verification text.

Hi All,
I know this is a prevailing issue that has been going on for ages. I found a solution after brainstorming at my desk and super proud.

I have an S21 Ultra and faced the same issue when trying to restore my chat from google drive to a new phone(Check your internet connection problem) , google or youtube didn't help, anyway to cut the long story short ...

Solution:
(1) Check how much storage space you have left in your google drive( Found that mine had only 1% left and my backup file size was 6GB.
(2) If it is almost full change to a different google drive account (another gmail email address if you have one, if you don't create one) in your whatsApp chat section with enough space and back up your  chats using this new email.

- You can do this by going to your chat backup section, tapping on the email address below account and switch to the other account as seen in the screenshot below.

3)Then try to restore on your new phone using the new google drive account!!

Tried this twice on my phone and my mum's and it worked, so thankfully not a fluke!!

My reward is knowing that I have helped the people who got stuck on a 4-day wait for the WhatsApp verification code like me.. Samsung can sneak a little thank you in here too as I figured this out on my own!

having the same issue after I had to completely reset my phone for a different problem (they pile up!). So soft reset seems quite stupid.

Anyone found a solution yet?
