FB Messenger Marking as "Seen"

I got a Galaxy S21 a week ago and encountered an issue where at some times (not always, but often enough) when someone messages me on FB Messenger, the message gets marked as "Read" or "Seen" even though I haven't opened the message (or touched the notification/bubble). It also appears that way (Marked as "Seen") on the recipient's side. I have Bubbles on and I can read a preview of the message on the notification tray.

The thing is, this happens randomly and not always so it's hard to figure out what exactly I'm doing to trigger this. Is it a bug or an easy fix? It's caused some miscommunications.

Maybe you were hacked? Haven't heard or read anything about this recently. But I di know facebook and messenger have been working incorrectly for some users here for a while now.

Check your account for any unauthorized log ins and devices. Turn 2 factor authentication on. Good luck

I don't think so, the first time it happened was the day I got the Samsung. It didn't happen on my old phone and doesn't happen when I'm using FB on PC. I also checked my log-ins and it was fine. Thanks for the reply.

Since this is an isolated incident (owing to the fact that you're the first to report such an issue), I suggest that you go throught the basics of troubleshooting it.

1.Clear app data. Then see if it happens again.
Or
2. Delete then install the app again.
Or
3. Wipe cache partition of your phone.
Or
4. Factory reset the device. (which is a bit drastic. But oh well.)

On a side note, why don't you try if the same thing happens with the messenger lite app? Just so we can rule out if it's just this app that's giving you problems as oppose to a problem on samsung's or android's end.

Hi, I tried 1-3 but still no luck. I'm currently trying messenger lite, so far nothing yet, but then again it happens at random. I'll keep observing. Another user replied to my post with the same issue, so it might not be an isolated incident. Thank you

2 instances is from 2 different devices is still an isolated incident. Observe for a couple of days with messenger lite just so we can rule out the other possibilities. Another suggestion, try running messenger through a browser. Or try the beta version of the app.

I have the same device (although I'm not sure if we have the same processor) as the other user below me and I haven't encountered this problem.

Hello, I definitely tried securing my account more, and found no suspicious activity. Everything is in order in terms of my account security. Another user has experienced the same issue (they replied to my original post). Thank you for replying.

Same thing happened in my messenger, i am using note20 ultra 5g and i am receiving chats from messenger that automatically appears as read or seen despite not yet being opened by me. Log in ok, no other unusual log in activities other than me. I even received chats saying I'm a “seener” even though i haven't read their messages.
