Hi, yes for 2019 and 2020 flagships, eligible for 3 major OS and 4 years of security patch updates. From 2021 models onwards (all flagships and some mid-range), they are eligible for 4 major OS and 5 years of security patch updates.
Thanks..I feel is wasted..because some of us like me will use phone very long...so I hope they also not bias lah..at least let we old phone user update..and not all are rich people to change phone so frequently..
Hey, actually it's ok to use a phone without having the latest software version, as there will still be security patch update released quarterly to patch any bugs from ur current Android version.
Previously, I had used a Note 5 from Nov 2015 to Aug 2019. Stuck on Android 7, from the last major Android update in May 2017. So from 2017 to 2019, I was on Android 7, though till today, it's still on Android 7 (no custom rooting).
So, my point is that latest Android versions usually focus on the UI. And if UI is not important and essential, updating to latest Android version is actually not required, as u will still receive frequent app updates, as every Android update does, be it new or old. The app functionalities will remain the same.
Thanks to ppl like u, who have shown Samsung that not everyone needs to upgrade their devices every 2 years and consumer patterns are shifting such that the average duration of ppl changing phones has increased to 3 years and longer alr. Hence, they are supporting the devices with longer software support up to 4 major OS updates. Hope in the near future, they can further support to 5, which makes the phone usable for 6 years with security patch updates.
