Galaxy SI had this problem initially with an Ottocast device and eventually sent it back in frustration. I just bought a new device and same as before it worked perfectly fir about the first 3 connections and then failed and continually tried to connect as you're describing.
Researching it i believe this isn't a device problem it's an Android Auto one. If you go into settings then all apps and find android auto, there is an option to clear the cache. That fixes it but i think you have to do it regularly or it recurs. Google should fix it in my opinion - it's infuriating!

Galaxy SIt depends on:
1. The Original Head Unit (usually no issues),
OEM AA player headunit or 3rd party AA dongle .. sometimes disconnecting issue could be lack of power supply or could be bugs .. who knows
2. Google AA team (some bugs need to wait for developer to fix and roll out latest AA version to our phones) .. google has a list of current AA bugs identified and those already fixed
I tried using Android Auto with many other cars , OEM players and 3rd party dongles. Most of the time its okay.. but sometimes the disconnecting issue just occurs at random .. never could identify the root cause
Hope this helps
