Galaxy ZWhen Samsung released the Z Fold, I knew I'd eventually switch to it. I’ve been a Note/S Ultra user for years. My main holdback? I was waiting for better app development for Samsung tablets. At the time, I felt Samsung/Android wasn’t quite there with tablet apps. I was also waiting for them to incorporate the stylus, similar to how they did with the Ultra/Note. Using the stylus on the Note/Ultra was a bit awkward because of the screen size, but on a tablet, it would offer a much better experience.
The camera was another issue. It was lagging behind the Note/S series.
After the Z Fold 6, I convinced myself that when the Z Fold 7 came out, I’d settle with a stylus case and buy it. But after the release, I felt that aside from being thin, the phone actually felt like a step backward. I'll admit, I don’t use my stylus all the time, but I’ve kept buying the phones with it since the Note 4, because when I do need it, it's incredibly handy. It’s disappointing that Samsung removed the Bluetooth functionality in the S25 and completely removed it from the Z Fold.
The front camera, which was nearly invisible on the Z Fold 6, now has a hole in the Z Fold 7. The battery life didn’t improve, and the charging speed/power is still lacking. The camera did improve slightly, but it’s still behind the 2024 Galaxy S series, which feels like laziness. And don’t even get me started on the price! With all the steps backward, just making the phone thinner and lighter doesn’t justify the price hike. It almost feels like they had to remove a lot of features to make the phone thin, and now with less functionality, they’re raising the price. How does that make sense?
I really hope they improve the Z Fold 8. I was even planning to buy the Z Fold and pair it with the Galaxy Watch Classic 8 since they brought back the rotating bezel, but I didn’t because I wanted to bundle it with the phone. Honestly, it’s so disappointing. It feels like Samsung is taking a step back and slowing down, maybe waiting for the iPhone to catch up. Or maybe they’re just getting lazy because the iPhone is moving so slowly. Meanwhile, Chinese phones are advancing rapidly. I really hope Samsung steps it up next year.
