OthersHere's Samsung promoting the new Bixby
I find the first change useful. You can now continue the conversation without having to summon Bixby over and over again - it's like in Google Assistant.
This is the one i don't get though..
Is this feature in the way of "latest technological advances"?
Or is it because apple and Google only have shortcuts and routines?
Routines feature is different from quick commands.
Quick commands let you create a series of commands that can be triggered by shorter command or keyword - sometimes, even without unlocking the phone.
Routines doesn't even let you create multiple commands to Bixby voice in one routine.
In the past, if i want to refresh my screen brightness (after manually setting it with auto brightness on), i could ask bixby to enable and then disable auto brightness with short phrase.
I can't do that with routines because there's only one "ask bixby" capsule in the "then" section of the routine.
I expected routines to expand and be more adaptive, maybe add an else or if not or except function because it sometimes feel restrictive and cumbersome. If it detected an anomaly or contradiction to existing routines, it would just tell you that there is a problem but won't let you know what the specific problem is or point out the anomaly in your settings. So you're left to troubleshoot on your own and read through the existing routines that you already have created months or even years ago. And sometimes after an update, it would tell there is a problem with the routine when you have not done anything yet. It's frustrating to look at a system of routines that you knew was working so well before the update messed it up.
I used to have 50 routines but after the bixby update, it went down to 49 because of "a problem" and i couldn't figure out what was missing so maybe it wasn't that important so i'll just wait if anything will be messed up. I hope they could somehow add more slots to routine since they have removed quick commands. i already have created 86 quick commands which was i think the maximum number of the commands you can create because i couldn't create another after creating that much.
I've created another routine, my latest 50th, as replacement for my mostly used quick command which was related to the alarm clock:
It would work like this if you summon bixby and say the title of the routine:
My problems with this now are
1. if Bixby didn't get the time - like if i said 7am but it only heard "AM", it will change the name of the alarm. Back then with quick commands, it would ask for the time again and it wouldn't mess up the name of the alarm.
2. I now need to unlock the device before bixby can change the time. I didn't have to unlock my device back when quick commands feature was available
I really am trying to move on without much frustration about this but i still wish they would bring quick commands back with upcoming updates. Or maybe add more slots to routines and make it more flexible.
