Get ready for the Y2K Music Challenge! It’s not just about remembering old songs, it’s about recognising them through emojis, and sharing the one song (from any era!) that brings your favourite memories to life. 

Members, show off your Y2K knowledge and take us on a nostalgic journey through the songs that mean the most to you.

What’s the challenge?

This challenge has two parts:

First, guess the song titles of iconic Y2K hits* from a series of emoji sequences below:

*For this part, we’ve even dropped a few clues—hint, hint—the artist’s name and year of release next to the emojis are there to jog your memory!

Second, pick any one song (it doesn’t have to be from the emoji sequences) that takes you back to your younger days and brings back your favourite memory—then share that song and memory with us!

How do I participate?

1. Review the emoji sequences and guess the six song titles they represent.
2. Choose any song from the years 2000 to 2008 that brings back memories of your younger days, and share why it's special to you in a few sentences.
3. In one comment, submit:
1. Your six guessed song titles from the emoji sequences.
2. The title of the song you've chosen and the memory it evokes.
3. Add the hashtag #Samsung4eva to your comment.
4. The top 6 submissions with the most number of likes on the Samsung Members App will each win a prize.

— When I was in kindergarten or 1st grade, my family was a big fan of Marian Rivera. It was when Marimar was airing on TV. They would let me dance to the same songs she performed on Eat Bulaga, SOP, etc., but her music, Sabay Sabay Tayo (2008), greatly impacted my childhood. I remember having my childhood videos uploaded on YouTube titled Little Marian Rivera. My mom would sing that song, and my little self would automatically dance to it. I still know every single lyric of that song until now.

A big memory of mine growing up was listening to the different songs played on the radio whenever we had free time around the house. I distinctly remember the song "Mr. Suave" would be playing on repeat, and we would be dancing to it for fun and laughing uncontrollably because of it. Now when I listen to these types of songs I'm taken back to when times are simpler.

Summer 2005 was one of the best times of my life in college. The cassette tape era was ending, and CDs were the big thing. Waking up at 7 a.m. with a timer set on my VCD 3-disc changer autoplays Mariah Carey’s We Belong Together, puts a smile on my face as I made coffee in the morning and sang my heart out! This song reminds me so much being a Summer Beej @ Killer Bee 106.3 FM

The song that resonates with me the most is "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira, as it was being played during my very first pageant. Every time I hear that song, I’m reminded of the courage I took to step out of my comfort zone and dive into this experience. It’s a powerful reminder of my journey and growth🌻

Music has an undeniable power to evoke memories, transport us to different times, and even reignite long-forgotten feelings. As I think back to my childhood, it’s the MYX channel esp the OPM "kahit maputi na ang buhok ko" that bring a sense of warmth and nostalgia. These songs weren’t just melodies to be listened to; they were the soundtrack of my life, shaping my early years and giving me memories that still hold deep meaning today.
