I just switched from an iPhone and I actually prefer the gesture bar transition when in landscape. I feel like it just feels more natural. I get it though, the traditional nav bar was always on the bottom and I can see how people wouldn't like it. An option would be nice for those that prefer it that way.

I don't really mind it it's just not as smooth as before but I understand that this is still beta. It's just the home screen end up landscape too for a second(even with landscape homescreen off) then back to portrait

There is an option to keep gestures at the bottom of the screen.
Settings > Display > Navigation Bar... then select either the old school button or more options gives the option to enable the gestures from Android 9.
As for flashlight brightness.... when I press the word "flashlight" in the quick settings / pull down menu it still gives the options of adjusting brightness.
Hope this helps.
