How does one minimize the keyboard when using the swipe up gestures instead of the navigation bar?

You can minimize the keyboard by swiping horizontally across the screen from the left end to the right end.

Is that a Samsung specific thing? I'm using GBoard and it has a navigation bar that pops up.
