I do not like the bubble that shows up when I get a new text message

 Is there any way to turn that off?

go to messages app. open the settings of it. go to notifications. then select new messages. Turn off the show as pop- up. that should fix it. not really a glitch or anything, u probably just forgot u turned it on, or didnt know what u were turning on

In Developer Options there's a Toggle for allowing certain notifications to appear as bubbles. That option could be enabled on your phone. There's also a feature called Smart Pop-up View that could be involved in what you are seeing.

It was the Smart Pop Up View. I toggled it before and it didn't work. but for some reason it works now. Thanks so much!

All those options are de-selected and I still get new messages as this annoying circle

See if your messaging app is enabled there, then turn it off if it is.
