I've found the experience of swiping up to find my recent apps not as smooth as I had hoped. I swipe up and have to hold for much longer than I expected and it sort of ruins the gesture experience.

I've also noticed that when I do the quick swipe at the bottom, that I can only swipe one way while going between apps. It feels like it would be more intuitive to swipe left to right to get the last used app and then right to left to go back to the app you were just on.

I agree! There seems there could be a better way for switching to recent apps! The gestures in general, especially the back gesture and conflict with app slide out menus could definitely use some work!

Animations could be smoother, transitions better, all around new navigation could use some work

Much like there is a tap and hold speed control for the keyboard app they can add a delay control for Recent screen access which was honestly easier in Android Pie...I rather swipe up for Recent rather than Home screen...I wish we could have the option to reverse it much like Samsung provide the option to swap Recent and Back in the standard Android Navigation keys.
