It makes sense, especially when a YouTube video or IGTV video has a scrubbing bar right by where you'd "swipe" to shift apps. But the problem is, the pull up and swipe gesture while is not too much of a hastle when swiping left to right (for a right handed person) the opposite is almost impossible to get right in a single attempt.
TLDR: Focus on the hint based swiping because it covers all scenarios but for the love of god color match it with the app so it appears to hover and make it disappear when watching videos.
