OK, here's a weird one. I subscribe to Apple Music. I have the Apple Music app installed on my iPhone 15 Pro and on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A7. My DAC is a Benchmark DAC2 DX. When I play a song on the iPhone, the DAC always shows the bit depth and the sample rate accurately.

When I play a song on the Tab A7 with the volume button on the A7 turned up all the way, the 16 bit and 24 bit lamps both glow. The manual for the DAC says this indicates a bit depth between 17 and 23 bits. If I bring the volume down, even just a little, the 16 bit lamp goes out and the 24 bit lamp stays on. In every case, the Tab A7 shows the sample rate as 4 X 48 = 192 kHz.

I downloaded a 1 kHz 16/44.1 test tone and played it on the Tab A7. The DAC still shows it as 24/192 if the volume is turned down a bit, and it still reports bit depth between 17 and 23 and sample rate as 4 X 48 = 192 kHz when the volume is up full.

I just checked my Galaxy Tab A8 and it exhibits the very same behavior. Any ideas on if or how this can be fixed?
