Perception. Editing a Photo vs No Editing

Ability to edit photo's with modern technolgy raises the following questions

The other day I showed a couple of pics that I had edited on my Samsung S22 Ultra to a family member and after explaining the process and showing the before and after photos, I was shocked at his response, which was "That's cheating, their not real photos cause it was edited, so they don't count. Obviously I was disapointed with his response which then got me thinking about this.

'Is it not true that everything in life is edited from photos to people to property and everything in between?

When someone gets a haircut, has a manicure, put on clothes, applies make, goes on a health kick losing weight thus changing their image, is this not editing the way they look? So do they now count or do they no longer count?

When someone buys a vehicle and then spends a fortune modifying it to how they want it to look and perform, didn't they just edit it? So could we say the modifacations don't count and it is now worth less because it's edited?

The same question could be asjed about renovating a house or changing the appearance of anything.

So why do they make such a fuss over edited photo's? (I can understand if you decieved them and denied it had been edited and claimed it was the original copy but that's not what this conversation is about.)

I would like to hear other member,s opinions on this subject being does an edited photo count less than anything else that has been changed from original.

I agreed. Too easy to do so, too difficult to tell apart. I don't do competition of photography here any more.

You like the Paradeolia effect don't you? That's why maybe your family member doesn't want you editing your photos. The rest of the world is editing flat out but your not allowed to..for some strange reason 🤔

Sometimes I point and shoot, then post right away if I'm too lazy. Sometimes I remaster, and sometimes I use LR for Samsung. At the end of the day, the photo is yours, you've captured the memories. It's up to them to appreciate your art. 🥰✨️

Editing is still art, it's YOUR STYLE, your still creating the picture, an as long as the viewer is aware that it's edited, then there is no deciept. The S23 series doesn't need any editing in what it captures. I have the s21, ultra and S22ultra and s23. These phones are epic in the quality of the pic all by themselves and don't need to be edited

The photos from those phones are edited by camera software as the photo is taken. So they are also edited via the camera app rather than an after photo editing app
