Hi all 😀

I really like the Samsung Gallery app, and would like to keep using it - however I need some help on metadata.

I would like a way to search my photos using gallery by entering a keyword (beach, family, a persons name etc). I have embedded some test images with both AcdSee metadata and the universal IPTC data - but the search function will not see the keywords.

I understand that the app has "tags" - however as I have read the tags do not get written to the file, so changing phones (even to another Samsung) would not keep that search functionality. Additionally, I do not see a way to manually add tags in the app.

This really limits the tags to what ever the recognition software can "see". I understand Samsung wanting to use recognition and in some sense keep the data propriety - but IPTC has been around for 30yrs and is universal. It wouldn't be hard to add the functionality.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan 😀

Would you consider another approach? Check how to synchronise your photos to something like Google Drive or One Drive (I am not so keen on the latter) and see if search options or sort options give you a reasonable result. That way you also have a backup if you lose your phone. Note Google Drive settings should be checked carefully as Google Drive saves in a smaller, lower quality, size unless you specify otherwise.
