Not sure whats happening but my USB-C headphones have stopped working? I plug them in and the info from the swipe down says " charging connected device via USB".
It gives me the option to 'tap for more options' and when I do this the menu on offer is "USB settings" "USB controlled by":
● connected device
○ this device

When I click to change to 'this device' it thinks about it then says "couldn't switch"

Theres a secondary part to the menu thats washed out so I cant click on it or change it at all but its
'Use USB for'
● transferring files/android auto
○ USB tethering
○ MIDI
○ Transferring images
○ Charging phone only

Any idea why my headphones aren't registering as headphones anymore?!
I've had a quick google and looks like something similar happened back in 2020 but the troubleshooting options dont seem to transfer to my current phone S20+ 5G

Hi @LalaXD, sorry to hear you're having this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps you could try:

- Ensure that your device is up to date with the latest software update.

- Force stop USB-C app: go into Settings > Apps > open menu on the right of ‘Your apps’ heading > toggle on Show systems apps and tap ‘Okay’ > scroll down to Samsung USB-C headset > Tap on Force stop.

- Clear cache for USBSettings app: use the same steps as above to go to USBSettings app > tap on Storage > Clear cache.

- Test your headphones in Safe Mode. To turn you phone on in Safe Mode, please follow the steps here: https://www.samsung.com/au/support/mobile-devices/using-safe-mode/

  • Please check if your earphones work when your device is in this mode.
  • If it does, then it suggests that you have a third-party app which is stopping your device from registering your earphones.
  • If it doesn’t work, then this suggests that there may be a software issue.

Let us know how you go. :)

This fix didn't solve anything. Headphones worked completely fine until I installed the most recent software update. Now they are just being recognised as a charging cord instead of headphones.

Hi Laura, I had tried the solution you mentioned, and the result showed that my earphone is still unable to function in safety mode (it can't even detect that I had plugged in the earphone - nothing shown in the notification). I had tried another way suggested by other expert, which is to activate the developer options, and turn off the "disable USB audio routing" and "USB debugging" button and restart, but it was not working too. I confirmed that my earphone are not damaged as it can work well in all other devices. Can you please give me some guidance on what else can I perform to deal with issue? Thanks Laura
