I was using a samsung j3 (2016) phone for my  internet usage. I ran a hotspot to connect to my laptop (aspire  5 acer) to use internet. I made zoom, skype calls. The speedtest using this j3 device was upload > 10mbps and upload > 8mbps using https://www.speedtest.net/run.

It worked FINE

Today i bought a samsung a21 to replace this old phone.  I have The same laptop and location and telco provider as with j3 samsung.

The hotspot feature on a21 phone cant get upload speeds over 5mbps and usually it wont go above 2 mbps. Therefore video calls dont work well.

I changed Band setting to 5GZ preferred in hotspot setting

The upload speed is to slow for video calls. Is there a setting  i can change? It isnt my devices/telco provider as my J3 samsung phone works fine on the same hardware devices?

I suspect the hotspot feature  doesnt work well

Hello! My guess is that it isnt the hardware, but rather the reception picked up by your phone. If both devices both couldn't send proper 4g to your laptop then the reception in your area must **bleep** or be busy.

Well, I'm not sure how to fix the problem. But here's my tips:
1. Make sure the other devices that are connected through hotspot on your phone are off.
2. When hotspot is in use make sure the Wi-Fi is off as this can make the hotspot work better.
3. In connections > mobile networks > network mode. Make sure 3g/4g and if your phone has 5g, 3g/4g/5g is in use.

Again, I'm not sure how to fix the problem I just think these things may be helpful.

Hi @andrewtownsley, I would definitely suggest checking out @Nugzo's tips. Here are some other troubleshooting steps that you can try:

- Reset network settings: go into Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset network settings > RESET NETWORK SETTINGS. Please note that this will also reset your WiFi settings.

- Check your access point and network connected are correct: To do this, go into Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. You can manually add the network here if it is not correct. Then, go back to Mobile networks > Network operators > toggle on and off Select automatically

If these do not help, I recommend sending an error report through Samsung Members, which will allow our team to assess this issue remotely. It is recommended that you send these error reports within 3 minutes of the issue occurring to assist in identifying any potential deviations in your device performance. To send an error report:

Samsung Members > Get help > Error reports > Network/Wi-Fi > describe issue and frequency > Tick ‘send system log data’ > Send in top right.

Hope this helps!
