I receive my messages only if connected on wifi and if not, it arrives late

I noticed it recently where my mom's messages only arrive after I connect my phone to a wifi. If I am not connected, it arrives very late, almost 4 hours late than the time indicated when it was sent. If I send messages though, it works just fine.

are you using rcs or chat features on your messaging app?

I tried messaging my phone through my mom's phone with the wifi turned off and it works now! Thank you!

I just turned off the chat features cause it's on, and I also selected automatic in the default message type

I think the chat option on your messages is turned on.. its like imessage for android

Whereabouts is this chat feature I can't find it

Go directly to the message app then click the three-dots icon on the top right corner. Click on settings and there you can find the chat feature.
