Theres a LOT of customisation and tweaking that you can do.
I'd say to start, have a look through QuickShare and the settings - basically AirDrop but available on many platforms (can share to iphone too with QR code/link).
If you're using Google Messages, you can access the messages by using the Web interface.
Lastly, I'd definitely set up Phone Link if you have a Windows computer for cross device cut/paste etc
