It's not actually needed. It's a preference.

In my case, I always reformat my device every after major updates to ensure better stability. Bugs are prevalent on major updates and reformatting my device is one of my proven techniques to prevent it. Additionally, plenty of apps aren't optimized for Android 14 and we could expect for some errors or instability on your device.

But of course, it's not 100% effective because other bugs are mainly caused by the software itself.
