In recent days, Samsung Wallet in Australia has boosted its capabilities by launching a Digital Car Key feature with our first partner, BMW.
The feature allows customers of compatible BMW cars to create a digital version of their car keys and save them securely on Samsung Wallet. Customers can then use their phones to lock/unlock car doors, start the car and share the car keys with friends via text message. No need to carry your physical car keys anymore!
You either tap your phone to the door handle using NFC, or else you can activate the lock from a few metres away using Samsung’s Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology. The keys are stored in the Secure Element (SE) of the device which not only results in a highly secure solution, but it also enables another neat feature – even if your phone runs out of battery, you can still use your Digital Car Key for another 5 hours as the SE can draw on additional power source from within your device.
Digital Car Keys are exclusive to Samsung Wallet on a Samsung device.
