Is it possible to shoot a 4K (60 fps) video and store it directly to an SD card?

Hello, is there a way for us to record a 4K (60fps) video and directly use the SD card as the main storage? Or is this only possible if I purchase a Samsung Pro Plus SD card?

For reference: I bought a Samsung EVO Plus (2024) SD card with A2 / V30 / U3 / 4K Ultra HD symbol on it + 160 MB/s transfer speed and 256GB. I am using this for my S20 Plus (BTS edition). I changed the storage location to SD card and whenever I try to shoot a UHD (60 fps) video, it will say the usual "Video will be saved in the internal storage".

I am checking/considering getting the Pro Plus if it will actually allow me to do just that, but if this is really just how it is when it comes to shooting UHD videos on S20, then it's really a bummer because I'll have to manually transfer files during the event.

I miss that on my Note 20 and S21 Ultra. I used to mod my SIM to piggyback on a micro SD card 😅. I doubt the HW can recognise the card interface type and support it at the transfer rate published.

So there's no easy way to do it no matter how good the SD card transfer/read/write speed is? 🥹 I'm not really as techy but I tried reading about the sd cards, but I guess the info are mostly for cameras. 😓 Thank you!

It goes both ways. If you have a fast card the reader should also be compatible. Otherwise the card specs are useless. I tried looking for S20 series SD Card support specs but they only listed capacity. Never throughput. Could you save to the card you have now? Perhoas try to format the card while in the phone.

Yes, I can save to the SD card if I move it manually. But any 60fps recording will have to be saved to internal storage first, I don't think there's an option that would allow me to record UHD 60fps video directly to the external storage, though.

But I was wondering if switching to Pro Plus SD card would change that and actually allow me to directly do it. However, I don't want to spend on something expensive without the assurance that it would work that way. 🙏 Thank you!Screenshot_20250306_163358_Camera_1000032014_1741250068.png

U3 A2 V30 should be able to support it. Can you run storage app check on your SD while on phone to confirm the specs?

This is the only thing I can see, I'm not sure how else to check specs on phone. But here's the SD card I got. 😅Screenshot_20250306_165137_My Files_1000061755_1741251097.png20250304_202426_1000061756_1741251225.jpg

Gemini suggested the app A1 SD Bench. I think Aida will do tge same. I'll try both on my tablet.

Forget A1 SD bench most of it are APKs and not on Google Play could have malicious code. I'll search for more test apps.

I tried looking for it but Gemini also suggested some other apps found on Google Play. I used SD card test and got these results 🙏

Note: I didn't change any settings and went with the default test. Screenshot_20250306_171628_SD Card Test_1000061757_1741252770.pngScreenshot_20250306_171646_SD Card Test_1000061759_1741252607.pngScreenshot_20250306_171705_SD Card Test_1000061760_1741252653.png
