Is it possible to shoot a 4K (60 fps) video and store it directly to an SD card?

Hello, is there a way for us to record a 4K (60fps) video and directly use the SD card as the main storage? Or is this only possible if I purchase a Samsung Pro Plus SD card?

For reference: I bought a Samsung EVO Plus (2024) SD card with A2 / V30 / U3 / 4K Ultra HD symbol on it + 160 MB/s transfer speed and 256GB. I am using this for my S20 Plus (BTS edition). I changed the storage location to SD card and whenever I try to shoot a UHD (60 fps) video, it will say the usual "Video will be saved in the internal storage".

I am checking/considering getting the Pro Plus if it will actually allow me to do just that, but if this is really just how it is when it comes to shooting UHD videos on S20, then it's really a bummer because I'll have to manually transfer files during the event.

As per that test your card can only sustain 50mbps. I installed CPDT on the tablet. It detected the main storage. Sequential write is 778MB/s 😅. Let me drop in a micro SD I use on my DJI drones in there and I'll post results.

Also, the file size it read and write was only 10000 MB. I'm not sure if that would change anything? I didn't maximize the storage 😅 but yes, I guess I'll have to find a better alternative and that it will unlock the direct SD card storage for that quality.

I think the test defaults to a sample 1GB file. My results were lower. The tablet is updating now so I'll send screenies after its done.

Here are my dismal results 😅. It records 4K 60fps from a DJI Mini 3 Pro but couldn't win against your Samsung. It's a Sandisk Extreme Pro 64GB V30

Well you are right you cannot directly record video specifically 4k 60 FPS into your MicroSD card, today as off five of August 2025. It's clear , I purchased Samsung EVO plus micro SD card 1TB for my Samsung s20 Fe and it only supports up to 4K 30 FPS not 60fps so stay assured and thanks for your post here is made me sure that yes it is not possible

Thank you for confirming this on your device as well. I hope they'd do something where we can actually do that in the future (even in other devices), or better in another update if possible.
