Galaxy SGalaxy S24, running fine for a year on OneUI 6/Android 14. Several days back, I ran the forced update to OneUI 7/Android 15.
Now, fast charging no longer works. Charging used to take < 90 minutes from zero to full. Now it takes 6 hours. Multiple chargers, multiple cables tried. All results are identical. 120W Anker AC charger shows it charging at 9W max (5v/1.8a). Used to show charging at 25W until I ran the update. Same charger and cable charge my other device (a S24 Ultra running O6/A14 that I've disabled the update on - Developer settings, disable automatic updating when the phone reboots which seems to prevent the install auto-launching as well) at 45w as expected, filling the phone up from dead to 100% in less than an hour. Swapped chargers, cables, results all identical.
Battery life has dropped from my S24 being at 65% by the evening, now to < 15%, so battery life span is VASTLY shorter than it was before the update. Also, the phone always seems warmer than before. I grab it from just sitting idle for an hour, and it's really warm. Something is now consuming the battery.
Something is TERRIBLY wrong with this latest update and hopefully Samsung either fixes it shortly, or recalls the entire thing because it's causing massive numbers of problems (I'm far from the first poster on this issue).
Anyone know how to "fix" this? Please don't reply that you're not having issues, so "everything must be okay"--I don't care if you're not having issues, I am having issues as apparently are thousands of others. This is not an isolated case and I really am not interested that you happen to be one of the lucky ones unaffected by this new flaw. Also, please don't bother replying that I need to enable battery management, restart, flip a switch or two. Really. None of that should be needed, unless you've found that setting that fixes all the above, then I'll entertain it.
The phone has worked for 9 months, flawlessly, with all battery management settings disabled, and it now doesn't charge/drain properly immediately after the update. It's not the settings that need to be "fixed". The phone simply can't charge at > 9W, regardless of charger (tried several known working). Yes, of course the fast charging settings are enabled. Even toggled them off/on again to no avail.
Any news from Samsung on a fix for this? Thousands of S24's that can't last to the evening and charge at 1/4 the speed is really interfering with normal use, and hopefully Samsung can get this resolved before any serious reputational damage kicks in. Remember when Sonos tried to do the same thing last year (improving their software to the point of non-functionality)? Nearly killed off the company and they lost a CEO and several directors over it. Hopefully Samsung pivots.
