Auto rotate mode is off and always has been as I never usually use it. No routines or modes are running.

Started 1 day ago and hasn't changed. I did nothing different to cause this.

Try (either, or, combination);

1. Restart your phone
* Usually fixes most temporary glitches

2. Check YouTube settings
* YouTube app → Profile → Settings → General → look for anything unusual (e.g. “Zoom to fill”)

3. Use manual rotate
* While watching, pull down the quick settings and tap the rotate icon (if it appears)

4. Clear YouTube cache
* Settings → Apps → YouTube → Storage → Clear cache

5. Update apps (or reinstall them)
* Check for YouTube or system updates
* Note: if you use alternatives like ReVanced / MicroG, update those management apps too

I restarted the phone, checked settings couldn't find anything, turned on/off manual rotate and cleared YouTube cache and the issue was still there. My phone is up to date. I reinstalled YouTube as well as updated and it solved the issue until I closed Yt and reopened. The issue is happening again. Very weird

I guess you can also try;

1. Turn on Auto Rotate, open YouTube, rotate to landscape, then turn it off again

2. Disable Picture-in-Picture
* Settings → Apps → YouTube → Picture-in-picture → Turn off

3. Test in Safe Mode
* Power menu → Hold "Power Off" → Tap Safe Mode
* See if issue persists

Worst case, report the bug to YouTube Support
* YouTube app → Profile → Help & feedback → Send feedback

The 1st one worked but as soon as I close the video and reopen it reverts.

2. I turned off on YouTube app and phone settings and issue remains.

3. Tested and issue remains.

Is it weird that when watching YouTube in landscape with auto rotate off, if I turn the phone to portrait but upside down the phone also goes into portrait (but not upside). I tried it with auto rotate and the phone only went portrait when I turned it the right way up not upside down

very interesting, maybe try the below (note - very jank, proceed with caution haha);

1. Run Sensor Test
* Samsung Members → Get help → Diagnostics → Sensors Check accelerometer/gyro (recalibrate if needed)

2. Use a third party Rotation Control app
* Force landscape on YouTube regardless of system/app behavior

3. Roll back YouTube version
* Install older version (from say APKMirror after disabling auto-update in Play Store)

To add to what @alejcho suggested, can you try opening your camera and rotating your phone vertically and horizontally?

See if the text follows the orientation. Just to check if it is a gyroscope issue or isolated to YouTube only.

With autorotate off, when phone is landscape the camera text follows as is with portrait

That's good, it's not a hardware issue.

Maybe you can use routines as a workaround for now. There's 2 predefined that you can use in Discover tab.
