I bought a Galaxy s22 ultra 5 months ago and ever since I bought the phone I realised the speaker doesn't work when I take it to the plane. It randomly gets fixed after a few days but I took it to Samsung service and they told me it's the air pressure and I have to take the sim card lid out every time I take a plane!!! This is not only ridiculous, it's frustrating.. I'm soooo angry and I'll lodge an official complaint to the ombudsment.. this is a very expensive phone and Samsung can't even fix it.
I travel a lot and this is not useful for me to have a damaged phone every time I travel. Enough if Enough..I want my money back... I always thought Samsung was a good company but I regret now.. terrible service and support.
I have recorded a video of the issue as well.. can easily prove it and the fact that Samsung service is not capable of fixing the issue!!

It seems to be a regular problem and the suggested Support fix matches the advice you have been given. If your phone is supposed to be waterproof any fix might compromise that. Here is one post found by Googling "samsung flight mode speaker"

Thank you, but I'm not ok with this.. having to remove the sim card every time.. that's a stupid thing to do that you'd never expect when you buy a $2000 phone!!
It shows how incapable the company is..

As per the link @Troubadour posted, it's due to being sealed to get the IP68 rating, and as noted in that link, it occurs on other phones too, such as 1 person experienced with an A52s.

It also doesn't happen on all flights, seems to depend on cabin pressure etc.

I suggest that removing the sim is unnecessary and just popping the tray open and leaving it very slightly open would solve the problem. Probably opening and closing the tray once the plane reaches cruising level, and doing it again once you land, would also avoid the problem. Try it. You have my sympathy because it is a genuine problem but I don't think it is a big issue. Frankly I don't think going to the Ombudsman would achieve anything

I have the same issue. I almost caused a car accident recently because I was on an important call and in middle of the call while driving and my car being in the cold, speaker got silent and started crackling and I was trying to pop the sim card tray and almost hit another car. This is not only a phone defect but also a safety issue and should be recalled. I will never buy anything from Samsung again and I am a long time loyalty customer. Shame!

Handling the phone while driving. Hmmmm. I wonder whether a complaint about a safety issue is justified.
