Hi, I'm hoping this allowed but I am wondering if anyone who has gotten a samsung s23 model via telstra on a plan if we could have a way to contact each other and share some certain things. I've finally got confirmation my handset is fake basically and I'm just looking for anyone else so I can help them on the next steps they have to take.
This is no lie I've had to do a cybercrime report ombudsmen etc but my handset is useless pretty much as anything you do you get hacked or your information stolen.

If you got a phone from Telstra and it's fake, just take it back to them and get a replacement.

However if someone random sold you a phone "from Telstra", then that's different.

Hope you get a resolution

Telstra won't let me hand it back it's with the ombudsmen for final this is it they must offer me something for even just compensation but I 100% got it on a plan.

You should be in good hands if the TIO is involved.

But that's very interesting. I wonder what happened

It's hit the last final stages with ombudsmen but my model code which is very correct via samsung but on the phone in about phone is not at all I have one friend who has the exact same about phone settings as mine which is why I'm reaching out to hopefully be able to help others if they have the same.

Guessing that some purchasing officer at Telstra got quotes for a bulk purchase chose the cheapest quote without realising about grey market phones i.e. not supplied by Samsung Australia. I wouldn't say they get hacked more, unless you have evidence, just different specs limiting their versatility in Australia (unless not updateable software which would lead to greater risk because updates include security features. Try making Samsung Australia aware of this, which is almost impossible, as they need to be aware they may have lost a bulk purchase with a significant financial loss to them. Also consider if you can get Federal police to consider action for fraud (use your local Representative and Senate member and the relevant ministers).

Oh the phones ip address it has its owned is attached too all my accounts I have finger print etc on to make sure I was safe till the telstra shop worker found a certificate on the phone with finger prints added in 2009 absolutely no way in hell as these are brand new but my finger print means nothing. I had telstra tell me today that yes this phone is useless and to smash it but yet they compensate me for what I've lost which is a lot including money that the ombudsmen said there offer is not any where good enough

Thank you for your reply. Don't smash it. That looks like Telstra is trying to get you to destroy evidence. Turm off data, turn off wi-fi, turn off bluetooth, then rundown the battery to zero so things like location don't work.

Do contact Samsung Australia in case this isn't just you.
If Telstra won't listen to the ombudsman then seek legal advice also inform them that A Current Affair will be informed to get info out to the general public.
Lawyers and publicity will cost them more than a new phone.
I did have the security certificate thing happen on a previous phone so now I reinstall my apps from the play store especially my bank apps. Painful but it has the added benefit of purging each install is usually a third of what I had on my previous phone and old phone has those still and becomes a back up
