It finally works, first I had to go into developer mode and turn on usb mode to transfer files, this initially did not fix the problem but needs to be done. I used the original samsung usbc cable and connected to pc and finally it worked, not sure why the other usb cable did not work, it charges the phone but for some reason the usb transfer mode option does not even happen

Usually in the notification on the phone, you can set how the phone appears to a PC: charge only (doesn't appear on PC), mass storage (looks like a USB device) and I forget the third option.

Maybe yours is set to charge only?

Hi @klickar, your phone will need to be unlocked to connect to a computer. When plugging in and unlocking your device, do you receive any prompts in your notifications?

Not saying there is anything special about Samsung's cable (there isn't), it just meets a certain spec. Other cables on the market meet certain specs too. Basically all USB cables are not created equal. Some don't allow fast charge, some don't allow fast data transfer and some don't allow it at all.

It is actially fine to shop around for cheap cables, but its always worth reading the specs for the 2 key things i mentioned, if they are not mentioned as a selling point, then the cable will likely not do it/do it well.
